First Lady Suite Auditions

Circle Theatre Chicago is seeking 6 women and 1 male of all ages to play 10 women and 2 men for their fall production of First Lady Suite by Michael John LaChiusa, directed by Artistic Director Nicholas Reinhart. Actors and actresses of all racial/ethnic backgrounds encouraged to submit. We are looking for strong actors who can sing well.

First Lady Suite is a musical fantasia in three parts, inspired by moments in the lives of the women behind the most powerful men in the world. Over Texas takes place aboard Air Force One on the morning of November 22nd, 1963, as the personal secretary to the First Lady has an ominous nightmare featuring Jackie and Lady Bird. Where's Mamie? finds Mamie Eisenhower, alone and melancholic on her birthday, imagining a trip to Little Rock with singer Marian Anderson to confront Ike about his affair with his chauffeur. The final part, Eleanor Sleeps Here, examines the relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and Lorena Hickok as they fly over Washington with Amelia Earhart.

Circle Theatre Chicago is part of the Code of Conduct Pilot Group, which seeks to strengthen an atmosphere wherein communication, safety, respect, and accountability are high priorities as is the health, safety, and well-being of Chicago theatres and the artists therein. As such, we make the following audition commitments to you: you will not be asked to audition more than three (3) times for this production; you will not be kept at any audition more than three (3) hours, or past 11pm; you will not be asked to disrobe, or perform any intimate contact or violence as part of your audition. We will be video recording our audition, but you will have the opportunity to choose not to be recorded at your audition.
